Literature review and/or background to the issue (900 words)
Domestic violence and abuse is a significant social problem that affects women across Australia. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), one in three women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15, and one in five women have experienced sexual violence. These statistics are alarming, and highlight the urgent need to address this issue.
Despite the existence of legal and support services, many women do not report incidents of domestic violence and abuse to the authorities. Research has shown that there are a range of factors that contribute to this under-reporting, including fear of retaliation, lack of trust in the authorities, and cultural and social barriers. Additionally, many women may not recognise that they are experiencing domestic violence and abuse, or may not understand the legal and support services that are available to them.
In Perth, Western Australia, there is limited research on the reasons why women do not report incidents of domestic violence and abuse. This research proposal aims to address this gap in the literature and provide a better understanding of the factors that prevent women from reporting domestic violence and abuse in this region.

The interviews will be conducted by professional community workers, and will be 45 to 60 minutes in duration. The interviewees will be recruited from community agencies that provide services to women who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. The research team will employ an assistant researcher, a transcriber, and a counsellor to assist with the data collection and analysis process.
