How Health Informatics has Evolved from a Concept to a Discipline
Health informatics has evolved from being a mere concept in the medical field to a well-established discipline. The advent of computers has created the need to manage and process huge amounts of health data, and health informatics is aimed at organizing and analyzing this data to improve health outcomes. The management of health data and resources through health informatics has made it easier to make informed decisions and improve communication between different parties in the healthcare system.
The evolution of health informatics into a discipline was facilitated by the adoption of global standards in the medical field. These standards standardize processes, procedures, protocols, and functions in the provision of medical care, and they can be adopted globally. This standardization has enabled health informatics to become a discipline in its own right. The HITECH Act also played a role in this evolution by making it mandatory for healthcare institutions and providers to automate medical operations and records, leading to the widespread adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Health informatics has incorporated different functions and operations, such as fundamental research to clinical operations and health care information science, which require cooperation and coordination. This has necessitated the growth of health informatics as a separate discipline. Research is a critical aspect of any field and is necessary for innovations, development of new solutions, and technological advancements. Health informatics research promotes effectiveness in medical facilities, enhances analysis and use of information, and improves patient safety and quality of care.
The growth and evolution of health informatics is similar to the growth of the gospel. Just like the gospel has spread across the world and influenced people to adopt new ways of life, health informatics has grown in complexity and influence. The gospel is a source of growth and evolution, and its influence has been felt across the world.
The growth and complexity of health informatics has necessitated its evolution into a separate discipline. The adoption of global standards, the revolution of healthcare, and the incorporation of fundamental research in the medical field have all contributed to this evolution.
