In 750 words explain how my capstone project(Title below) and relate its link to cultural care theory and translational science
It should include at least 3 academic sources.
The capstone project that I’m currently working on it’s titled “Oral Health Promotion to Improve the Quality of Life in Older Adults Living Independently”
Capstone project “Oral Health Promotion to Improve the Quality of Life in Older Adults Living Independently” aims to improve the oral health of older adults and enhance their quality of life by promoting oral health behaviors and facilitating access to dental care. The project aligns with cultural care theory and translational science by taking a culturally sensitive and evidence-based approach to oral health promotion.
Cultural care theory, developed by Madeleine Leininger, is a nursing theory that emphasizes the importance of understanding and respecting the cultural beliefs, values, and practices of individuals and communities in the provision of care. In the context of the capstone project, cultural care theory highlights the need to consider the cultural beliefs, values, and practices related to oral health and hygiene among older adults, and how these may influence their oral health behaviors and access to dental care.
Translational science, on the other hand, is a multidisciplinary approach that aims to translate scientific discoveries into practical applications that benefit individuals and communities. In the context of the capstone project, translational science involves using evidence-based practices and interventions to promote oral health and improve the quality of life of older adults.
To implement the project, a comprehensive needs assessment will be conducted to gather information about the oral health status and behaviors of older adults living independently. This will help identify barriers and facilitators to oral health promotion and dental care access. The assessment will also consider the cultural beliefs, values, and practices related to oral health and hygiene among the target population.
Based on the findings of the needs assessment, an oral health promotion program will be developed and implemented to improve the oral health of older adults. The program will be culturally sensitive and tailored to the needs of the target population. It will include educational activities aimed at increasing knowledge and awareness of oral health and hygiene, and promoting healthy behaviors. The program will also provide access to dental care services and resources, such as referrals to dental providers and information about financial assistance for dental services.
The implementation of the oral health promotion program will be evaluated to determine its effectiveness in improving the oral health and quality of life of older adults. Outcome measures will include changes in oral health status, oral health behaviors, and access to dental care. The evaluation will also consider the cultural beliefs, values, and practices of the target population and how these may have influenced the outcomes of the program.
The results of the capstone project will be disseminated to relevant stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policy makers, and community organizations. This will facilitate the translation of the project findings into practical applications that can be used to improve the oral health and quality of life of older adults living independently.
The capstone project “Oral Health Promotion to Improve the Quality of Life in Older Adults Living Independently” aligns with cultural care theory and translational science by taking a culturally sensitive and evidence-based approach to oral health promotion. The project aims to improve the oral health and quality of life of older adults by promoting oral health behaviors and facilitating access to dental care. The results of the project will contribute to the advancement of oral health promotion practices and policies, and have the potential to benefit older adults and other populations with similar needs.
