Introduction:
The purpose of this project summary report is to provide a detailed overview of the process used to complete Part I of the project on Revenue Cycle Management Organizational Management and Leadership. The project focused on improving the revenue cycle management process in a healthcare facility by developing an Information Management (IM) form. The Pamela Oach’s Health Information Management: Concepts, Principles, and Practice was used as a reference along with other scholarly material that aligns with AHIMA’s HIM Domains.
Description and Objectives:
The objective of the project was to develop an Information Management (IM) form that can help healthcare facilities to streamline their revenue cycle management process. The IM form is designed to capture patient information, insurance information, and treatment information in a standardized format. The form is expected to improve the accuracy and completeness of data captured, reduce the time spent on data entry, and minimize errors in billing and coding. The project also aimed to develop a policy and procedure to guide the use of the IM form.
Method/ Approach:
The project was divided into several phases, which included the following:
Research: A literature review was conducted to identify best practices in revenue cycle management and the use of IM forms in healthcare facilities.
Requirements Gathering: Requirements for the IM form were gathered through interviews with revenue cycle management staff, billing and coding specialists, and other stakeholders.
Design: The IM form was designed based on the requirements gathered, best practices, and the input of subject matter experts.
Policy and Procedure Development: A policy and procedure document was developed to guide the use of the IM form.
Testing and Implementation: The IM form was tested in a healthcare facility, and feedback was gathered from users to make improvements. The final version of the form was then implemented in the facility.
Deliverables:
The following deliverables were produced as part of the project:
Information Management (IM) form: The IM form captures patient information, insurance information, and treatment information in a standardized format. The form is designed to improve the accuracy and completeness of data captured, reduce the time spent on data entry, and minimize errors in billing and coding.
Policy and Procedure Document: The policy and procedure document provides guidance on the use of the IM form in the healthcare facility. It outlines the purpose of the form, the process for completing the form, and the responsibilities of staff involved in the revenue cycle management process.
Conclusion:
The project was successful in achieving its objectives of developing an Information Management (IM) form and a policy and procedure document to guide the use of the form in a healthcare facility. The IM form is expected to improve the accuracy and completeness of data captured, reduce the time spent on data entry, and minimize errors in billing and coding. The policy and procedure document will help to ensure that the form is used appropriately and consistently across the facility. Overall, the project has the potential to improve revenue cycle management in healthcare facilities and contribute to better financial outcomes.
