Course Learning Outcome

The course learning outcome that I chose is:

Demonstrate the ability to apply evidence-based practice to the care of patients with nutritional needs.
How I Met the Outcome This Term

I met this outcome by completing the following activities:

Reading and discussing the assigned readings.
Participating in the weekly discussion forums.
Completing the assigned quizzes and exams.
Completing the evidence-based practice project.
Through these activities, I learned about the importance of evidence-based practice in the care of patients with nutritional needs. I also learned about the different evidence-based interventions that nurses can implement to meet the nutritional needs of their patients.

How I Will Implement the Information from This Course into My Clinical Practice and Personal Life

I will implement the information from this course into my clinical practice by:

Using evidence-based interventions to meet the nutritional needs of my patients.
Collaborating with dietitians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement nutrition care plans for my patients.
Educating my patients about the importance of good nutrition and how to make healthy food choices.
I will also implement the information from this course into my personal life by:

Eating a healthy diet.
Exercising regularly.
Getting enough sleep.
Managing stress.
Evidence-Based Intervention

One evidence-based intervention that nurses can implement to meet the nutritional needs of their patients is the use of a nutrition care plan (NCP). An NCP is a written document that outlines the goals of nutrition care, the interventions that will be used to achieve those goals, and the expected outcomes of the interventions.

NCPs are developed by dietitians and other healthcare professionals, but nurses can play a key role in implementing them. Nurses can educate patients about the importance of good nutrition, help them to make healthy food choices, and monitor their progress towards their nutritional goals.

Evidence

Chow, M., & Fulgoni, V. L. (2017). Nutrition care plans: A practical guide for nurses. Jones & Bartlett Learning.
In this book, the authors discuss the importance of nutrition care plans and how nurses can use them to improve the nutritional status of their patients. They provide a step-by-step guide to developing and implementing NCPs, and they discuss the evidence-base for the interventions that are commonly used in NCPs.

Conclusion

I believe that the information from this course will be valuable in my clinical practice and personal life. I am confident that I can use the information to meet the nutritional needs of my patients and to improve my own health.
