Prior to engaging in this discussion, please read chapters five and six in your e-book and review the Instructor Guidance. If your last name begins with A-M you will discuss the theory of constructivism and its relationship to learning. If your last name begins with N-Z, you will discuss humanism and its relationship to learning psychology. Constructivists suggest that a person’s reality is unique from others and thus, effects what, how, and how effective knowledge is acquired. This is suggested to be affected by numerous variables such as culture, past experiences, and past knowledge. Regarding the first question, learning from a human potential perspective can be a viable approach to investigating how we learn. This approach recognizes the importance of personal growth, self-development, and individual needs, which can contribute to effective learning. However, it should be noted that content-driven learning is also important, as it provides learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to function in society.

Concerning the second question, Waldorf Education posits a school founded on humanism ideologies that prioritize the holistic development of the student. I believe this approach can be effective, as it recognizes the importance of the student’s social, emotional, and physical well-being, which can contribute to their academic success. However, it might not be suitable for all adults, as individual needs and circumstances vary.

Regarding the third question, an example of experiential learning is learning to ride a bike. It involves trial and error, practicing balance, and getting feedback from the experience. Experiential learning emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience in the learning process.

In response to the fourth question, motivation and needs can increase effective learning by providing learners with a sense of purpose and direction. Humanistic ideologies recognize the importance of fulfilling individual needs and desires, which can motivate learners to engage in the learning process and achieve their goals.

Finally, the variables of organismic integration theory (OIT) reflect the humanistic model by emphasizing the importance of personal values and beliefs in the learning process. OIT suggests that individuals are motivated to engage in activities that align with their values and beliefs, which can promote their personal growth and development. This aligns with humanistic ideologies that prioritize individual needs and desires in the learning process.
