ASSESSMENT 2
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the evidence and key debates on determinants of specific health issue/s
Weeks 2, 3 and 4 inform this assessment task.
This assessment task requires you to write a report in which you critique the evidence and key debates for the association of alcohol consumption and
cancer risk.
The context is that a recent report suggests that light to moderate alcohol consumption was associated with almost 23 000 new cancer cases globally in
2017, accounting for some 13% of all alcohol-attributable cancers and for 2% of all cases of the seven alcohol-related cancer types including
oesophagus, liver, colorectal, and breast cancers [1].
Some 11,000 of these cancers were female breast cancers. Also, more than a third of the cancer cases attributed to light to moderate drinking were
associated with drinking <10 g per day, considered to be low consumption [1].
