IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 and IPv6 are some of the version of internet protocol. IPv6 is an improved version of IPv4. The difference between IPv4 and IPv6 is commonly on the number of addresses that are generated by the protocols. IPv6 generates a large number of network addresses as compared to IPv4. The number of addresses in IPv4 is too insufficient leading to the internet running out of space. On the other hand, IPv6 generates more addresses that are flexible and scalable to the solution of the problems that affect the internet connection. Therefore IPv4 operates on a 32-bit address length while IPv6 has 128-bit address length.
The addresses of IPv4 represent the binary numbers in decimals whereas IPv6 addresses express the binary numbers in hexadecimal.
IPv4 uses the checksum in the header format for the purpose of checking the errors while IPv6 removes the header that is present in the checksum field.
IPv4 supports manual and DHCP in address configuration whereas IPv6 supports auto-configuration and renumbering.
In IPv4 fragmentation is performed by the sender and forwarding routers whereas in IPv6 it is performed by the sender.
The implication of the protocols is to enhance the transmission of addresses in the network to increase scalability and improve the speed of delivery of services on the network. The protocols enhance the security of the network. However, on the users, the protocol is used to exchange the messages on a network through transmission of packets. The speed of transmission is important in determining the efficiency of the network by the end users. To speed up the transition process, training and security issues should be taken into consideration, the end users should be trained on the new version and other issues associated to it.
