Outbreaks such as COVID-19 have had a significant impact on the operations of outpatient medical clinics and urgent care centers. The following are five areas where this issue could significantly impact these providers:
Operations: Outpatient medical clinics and urgent care centers may have to change their operations in order to accommodate increased demand for testing and treatment of COVID-19 patients. This could include implementing new screening procedures, increasing the number of staff on hand to handle the influx of patients, and making changes to the layout of the facility to promote social distancing.
Planning: Outpatient medical clinics and urgent care centers may have to revise their plans for the future in order to accommodate changes in demand for services as a result of the outbreak. This could include revising budgets and staffing plans to account for increased expenses and the need for additional staff, as well as developing new protocols for screening and treating patients.
Logistics: Outpatient medical clinics and urgent care centers may have to deal with increased logistics challenges as a result of the outbreak. This could include sourcing additional personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff, managing the flow of patients in and out of the facility, and finding ways to dispose of hazardous medical waste.
Training: Outpatient medical clinics and urgent care centers may have to provide additional training to staff in order to ensure that they are equipped to handle the increased demands of the outbreak.
