During this course, we are learning about the different stages of life and the relationship between who we are, how we relate to family, and what we do (our careers). This exploration helps us understand how interconnected these aspects of life truly are. Have you ever noticed that when our relationships are not right, nothing in our lives seem that important, and nothing else seems to go well for us? It’s as if a foundational piece is missing, impacting everything else. In Ephesians 5:21 we learn that we are, βout of respect for Christ, [to be] courteously reverent to one another.β This, I am sure, is meant to beβabove allβfor those with whom we love. This verse emphasizes the importance of mutual respect within our closest relationships, reflecting our reverence for Christ. So often, in counseling, we see relationships falling apart due to ego and a lack of respect for one another. The breakdown of respect can erode even the strongest bonds. We also hear about people who quit jobs they love because of their poor relationship with their administrators. This highlights how crucial healthy professional relationships are for job satisfaction and overall well-being. In Romans 14:1 we learn that we are to βwelcome with open arms fellow believers who donβt see things the way [we] do. And donβt jump all over them every time they do or say something [we] donβt agree withβeven when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department. Remember, they have their own history. Treat them gentlyβ (Biblegateway.com). This passage encourages acceptance and understanding, even when faced with differing viewpoints and perceived weaknesses. It reminds us to approach others with compassion, recognizing the unique experiences that have shaped them.
