The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) in reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in adults. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated the effectiveness of MBIs in the treatment of PTSD. The study found that MBIs were effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD and had moderate to large effect sizes. The findings of this study suggest that MBIs may be an effective treatment option for PMHNPs to consider when treating patients with PTSD.
PMHNPs can apply the findings of this study by incorporating MBIs, such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), into their treatment plan for patients with PTSD. Additionally, PMHNPs can educate patients about the potential benefits of MBIs and provide referrals to MBI programs or therapists trained in MBIs.
