The specific DNP role of interest in this paper is that of a faculty member at a nursing school. The reason for choosing this role is that nursing education is a crucial aspect of the nursing profession, and having highly educated and qualified faculty members is essential for the development of future nurses.
Currently, there is a gap in this role as many nursing schools require only a Master’s degree in nursing to be a faculty member. However, with the increasing complexity and dynamic nature of healthcare, it is essential that nursing education keeps pace with these changes. This is where the DNP prepared nurse can play a vital role.
The differences between an MSN and DNP prepared nurse in this role are significant. The DNP prepared nurse has a broader and deeper understanding of the healthcare system, as well as the ability to translate evidence-based research into practice. They also have advanced leadership and management skills, which are essential for managing and leading the education of future nurses.

A SWOT analysis of the DNP prepared nurse as a faculty member at a nursing school is presented below:

Strengths:
Advanced knowledge and understanding of the healthcare system
Ability to translate evidence-based research into practice
Advanced leadership and management skills
Strong commitment to lifelong learning and professional development

Weaknesses:
Limited experience in teaching and education
Limited experience in academic research
Opportunities:
Opportunities to shape the future of nursing education
Opportunities to improve the quality of nursing education
Opportunities to improve the quality of healthcare
Threats:
Limited job opportunities in nursing education
Limited recognition and acceptance of the DNP degree in nursing education
In conclusion, the DNP prepared nurse brings a unique set of skills and knowledge to the role of a faculty member at a nursing school. These skills and knowledge are essential for the development of future nurses and the improvement of the quality of healthcare. Therefore, making the DNP/PHD degree a requirement for being a faculty member at a nursing school is a logical step towards ensuring that nursing education keeps pace with the dynamic and complex nature of healthcare.
