NURS 6050 Walden Wk 8 Implementing Nephrology Healthcare Program Interview Paper
Description
As their names imply, the honeyguide bird and the honey badger both share an affinity for honey. Honeyguide birds specialize in finding beehives but struggle to access the honey within. Honey badgers are well-equipped to raid beehives but cannot always find them. However, these two honey-loving species have learned to collaborate on an effective means to meet their objectives. The honeyguide bird guides honey badgers to newly discovered hives. Once the honey badger has ransacked the hive, the honey guide bird safely enters to enjoy the leftover honey.
Much like honeyguide birds and honey badgers, nurses and health professionals from other specialty areas can—and should—collaborate to design effective programs. Nurses bring specialties to the table that make them natural partners to professionals with different specialties. When nurses take the requisite leadership in becoming involved throughout the healthcare system, these partnerships can better design and deliver highly effective programs that meet objectives.
In this Assignment, you will practice this type of leadership by advocating for a healthcare program. Equally as important, you will advocate for a collaborative role of the nurse in the design and implementation of this program. To do this, assume you are preparing to be interviewed by a professional organization/publication regarding your thoughts on the role of the nurse in the design and implementation of new healthcare programs.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on your thinking regarding the role of the nurse in the design and implementation of new healthcare programs.
Select a healthcare program within your practice and consider the design and implementation of this program.
Reflect on advocacy efforts and the role of the nurse in relation to healthcare program design and implementation.
The Assignment: (2–4 pages)
In a 2- to 4-page paper, create an interview transcript of your responses to the following interview questions:
Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
Who is your target population?
What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?
What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?
Who are the members of a healthcare team that you believe are most needed to implement a program? Can you explain why?

Interview Transcript:
Interviewer: Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
Nurse: The healthcare program I would like to discuss is a Nephrology healthcare program. This program is specifically designed to provide care for patients with kidney-related health issues such as chronic kidney disease, kidney failure, and kidney transplantation. The costs of this program would include the expenses for medical equipment, medication, and staffing. The projected outcomes of this program would be improved patient outcomes, increased patient satisfaction, and a reduction in hospital readmissions.
Interviewer: Who is your target population?
Nurse: Our target population for this program is individuals with kidney-related health issues, including those with chronic kidney disease, kidney failure, and those who have undergone kidney transplantation.
Interviewer: What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?
Nurse: Nurses play an important role in the design of healthcare programs, as they have firsthand knowledge of the healthcare needs of patients and the challenges that patients face. In the case of our Nephrology healthcare program, nurses were involved in the design process from the beginning. They provided input on the type of care that would be most beneficial for patients with kidney-related health issues and also provided suggestions for how to improve the program’s overall patient outcomes. For example, nurses suggested incorporating patient education programs to help patients better understand and manage their health conditions, as well as providing support groups for patients and their families.
Interviewer: What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
Nurse: My role as an advocate for our target population is to ensure that their healthcare needs are met and that they receive the best possible care. As a nurse, I have input into design decisions by providing input on the needs of the patient population and suggesting ways to improve the program. Additionally, as an advocate, I also work to educate our target population about the program and its benefits and also work to address any barriers that might prevent them from accessing the program.
Interviewer: What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?
Nurse: The role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation is to ensure that the program is implemented in a way that is consistent with its design and that it is providing the best possible care to patients. In the case of our Nephrology healthcare program, nurses are responsible for ensuring that patients are receiving the care they need, that they are educated about their health conditions and that they are receiving the necessary support. The role of the nurse in implementation is different from design, as the implementation focuses on the execution of the program, monitoring and evaluating its success. An example of this would be nurses working with patients to monitor the effectiveness of their treatment plan and making adjustments as needed.
Interviewer: Who are the members of a healthcare team that you believe are most needed to implement a program? Can you explain why?
Nurse: The healthcare team that is most needed to implement a program is a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. This is because different healthcare professionals bring different areas of expertise to the table and work together to provide the best possible care for patients. For example, in our Nephrology healthcare program, nurses work closely with physicians to ensure that patients receive the best possible care and that their treatment plans are effective, while other healthcare professionals such as dietitians and social workers provide additional support to patients and
